Focus · Depth psychology

Manas. The mental-health depth lane.

One of eight Focuses · available on Pause, Reset, and View · £900 – £1,500 indicative

A structured depth of one-to-one psychology work delivered inside the stay by the Manas clinical psychologist, alongside the two-week MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) foundation, optional EMDR where clinically indicated, and integration with Arti Kukreti's yoga-therapy practice. Where Klesha is the stress-and-burnout lane specifically — cortisol biology, endocrine work, and psychology oriented around the burnout picture — Manas is the broader mental-health lane: for guests who want more psychology sessions across the stay, evidence-based mindfulness training taken seriously, and the option of specialist trauma work with informed consent. Named after Sanskrit manas — mind, the classical seat of thought and feeling.

Indicative range £900 – £1,500 before shared-element dedup with other chosen Focuses
Recommended £1,300 the target the cost breakdown below is built on
Available on Pause · Reset · View not offered at Weekend; session count and MBSR depth scale with programme length
What's included

Depth-of-psychology time, taken seriously.

  • Six to eight one-to-one Manas psychologist sessions — one-to-one cognitive-behavioural, ACT, or integrative sessions with the Manas clinical psychologist. Session count scales with tier: six on Pause, seven on Reset, eight on View. Loaded toward the first two-thirds of the stay so the work has time to settle before departure.
  • Full two-week MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) foundation — four ninety-minute group sessions across the stay, capped at four to five guests per group, delivered by the Manas psychologist trained in the MBSR curriculum. Evidence-based, established since Kabat-Zinn's original programme at UMass Medical School; still one of the best-studied psychological interventions in medicine.
  • Optional EMDR sessions where clinically indicated — up to two Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing sessions for event-linked trauma the intake surfaces. Delivered only after a full readiness assessment; not offered as an inclusion in every guest's Focus regardless of appropriateness.
  • Integration with Arti Kukreti's yoga therapy — two ninety-minute one-to-one yoga-therapy sessions with Arti, timed to complement the psychological work. Yoga therapy in the classical sense — postural, breath, and philosophical practice used therapeutically, not group yoga.
  • Written take-home psychological protocol — a personal continuation plan for the twelve weeks after departure. MBSR practice schedule, recommended reading, a small number of targeted worksheets, and — for guests it applies to — a specific onward-referral suggestion for local therapy at home.
Manas Focus vs Klesha Focus

Manas is the broader mental-health lane; Klesha is the stress-and-burnout lane specifically. A guest with a clear burnout picture (cortisol dysregulation, HPA-axis exhaustion, sleep disturbance driven by stress) picks Klesha. A guest wanting depth-of-psychology work without the burnout framing — grief processing, ACT for anxiety, MBSR taken seriously, or a trauma-focused block — picks Manas. Guests picking both get the psychologist time delivered once (dedup) and a combined Focus that spans both angles at a bundle price.

Focus economics

Where each part of the £1,300 actually goes.

The Manas Focus is priced at £1,300 recommended (indicative range £900 – £1,500). There is no third-party pass-through — every element is delivered by hotel-employed clinicians and practitioners. The full £1,300 stays with the hotel and funds seven one-to-one psychology sessions, the four-session MBSR foundation, optional EMDR (amortised across the cohort taking it up), two yoga-therapy sessions with Arti Kukreti, and the take-home protocol. After costing hotel delivery at £610 (psychologist at the Programmes-page baseline £55/hr loaded), the net contribution to new investment is £690 per Focus — a 53% margin on the fee.

Manas is unusual in the Focus set — it has no external pass-through at all. Every hour is delivered by employed hires (the Manas psychologist, Arti Kukreti). Session cost is at Programmes-page baseline loaded rates — £55/hr for the psychologist, £30/hr for yoga therapy. The 53% margin sits in the middle of the Focus set — clinician-heavy Focuses like Manas will always run below the equipment-heavy Focuses (Kaya at 75%) because clinician time is a real per-guest cost; the contribution is still meaningful, and the depth of work is what commands the Focus fee.

What price does each margin imply?

Costs are fixed: £0 pass-through (Manas is entirely hotel-delivered), plus £610 of hotel delivery (clinician time at Programmes-page baseline rates). Since there is no pass-through, the whole fee is margin-generative — the slider explores how much margin sits on top of the £610 delivery cost. Drag the slider.

53% margin
Implied Focus fee £1,287

Recommended: £1,300 — seven psychology sessions at £150-£220 private-practice equivalent would total £1,050-£1,540 unbundled, and that is before the MBSR course, EMDR option, and yoga-therapy time. The slider lets you test alternatives.

Contraindications & referral pathways

Who Manas isn't for.

  • Active suicidal ideation or recent self-harm — requires psychiatric care pathway, not a wellness Focus. The intake may recommend an independent psychiatrist and defer the Focus.
  • Untreated psychosis or active manic episode — needs specialist mental-health service; MBSR and depth psychology work are not appropriate.
  • Active substance dependence — depth psychology work runs into limits while active dependence is untreated; the referral pathway is specialist addictions medicine first.
  • Currently in weekly ongoing psychotherapy with a specific therapist — a Focus does not provide the continuity that ongoing therapy relies on. Better to hold the depth work with the existing therapist and use the stay for other Focuses.
  • Recent bereavement (within 6 months) — grief has its own arc and its own specialist therapies. Bereavement counselling is a better fit than depth psychology inside a longevity stay. The Focus may still be right — the intake will make the call.
