Kaya. The measurable body — moved, mapped, and trended.
One of eight Focuses · available on Pause · Reset · View · £850 – £1,400 indicative
A structured movement-and-body-composition deep dive layered on top of the standard programme diagnostics. Two DEXA scans (arrival and departure), a full Functional Movement Screen with grip and single-plate battery, Theia3D markerless 3D motion-capture of gait and squat, and a written personalised movement prescription for the guest's home training. Named after Sanskrit kāya — body — the physical vehicle Ayurveda treats as the first-order intervention target. Clinical: DEXA is the gold-standard body-composition read; force output and grip-strength are among the most predictive markers of healthspan we have; FMS is the standardised movement-quality battery that flags asymmetries and injury risk; Theia3D is the reference-tier tool the elite-sport-lab community uses for whole-body kinematics. Most guests have had none of these.
The Kaya deep-dive on top of the standard baseline.
Every programme guest already receives a single-shot Kaya baseline as part of the standard Sama Clinic arc. The Kaya Focus turns that single read into a proper before-and-after arc with the retesting cadence that actually generates trainable data — plus the video-analysis and written-prescription work the standard baseline does not include.
- Two DEXA scans — arrival & departure — full body composition read on the JCC-registered DEXA scanner: lean mass, fat mass, visceral adipose tissue, bone mineral density, segmental asymmetry. Arrival scan sets the baseline; departure scan is the earliest a meaningful VAT / lean-mass shift shows up on stay of five nights or longer.
- Full Kaya assessment battery — seven-test Functional Movement Screen scored 0-3 per test by the Sama Clinic Kinesiologist, Jamar grip dynamometer bilateral read (age-and-sex normalised), and single-plate protocol (countermovement jump, single-leg squat, isometric mid-thigh pull) on the Vald ForceDecks Mini surfacing peak power, rate of force development, and jump height. Full stream context on the Kaya page.
- Theia3D markerless motion-capture — gait & squat & jump-landing — 4-6 synchronised cameras capture the guest moving naturally (no markers, no suit-up) and the Theia3D engine reconstructs full-body 3D kinematics: joint angles, gait mechanics, squat depth-and-symmetry, jump-landing biomechanics, and movement-pattern L/R asymmetry. Reviewed with the Kinesiologist and the guest — most guests have never seen themselves move in genuine 3D, and the compensations that fall out of the review often become the anchor for the home prescription. Kinematic asymmetry from Theia pairs with the single-plate's kinetic data to give the complete strength + movement-quality picture.
- Departure single-plate re-test — a second short force-plate session on the last full day: same protocol, so power output, rate of force development, and jump height can be compared against arrival directly. Useful for detecting acute-fatigue responses to the programme's training load; interpretively meaningful across a longer View stay where a real trend can emerge.
- Sama Clinic Kinesiologist prescription session — a full hour with the Kinesiologist reviewing every data source together (DEXA arrival + departure, FMS scores, grip trend, force-plate scores, video). The output is a written personalised movement prescription: mobility work, strength progression sequenced across 8-12 weeks, asymmetry-correction drills, and (where relevant) a note on which findings warrant sports-medicine or physiotherapy referral at the guest's home base.
Kaya is the diagnostic / assessment / prescription Focus — the measurement and the written protocol. Vikrama Focus is the training-and-execution Focus — hours with the PT team on the Bala Gym floor, VO2max testing, structured strength blocks. Guests often book both; Vikrama uses the Kaya assessment data as its starting point, so the two dedupe on the FMS + single-plate battery when combined.
Where each part of the £1,100 actually goes.
The Kaya Focus is priced at £1,100 recommended (indicative range £850 – £1,400). No third-party pass-through — every element is delivered on hotel capex equipment (DEXA scanner, single-plate force test rig, Jamar dynamometer, FMS kit, and the new Theia3D markerless motion-capture system) by employed Sama Clinic clinicians (Kinesiologist plus the IR(ME)R-certified DEXA operator). The full £1,100 stays with the hotel and funds the Kinesiologist and DEXA-operator time, the Theia3D 3D-motion-capture session, and the drafting of the written prescription. After costing hotel delivery at £275 (kinesiologist time at the Programmes-page baseline £40/hr loaded rate + IR(ME)R DEXA operator + equipment/software amortisation), the net contribution to new investment is £825 per Focus — a 75% margin on the full fee. Kaya remains the highest-margin Focus in the set — the small increase in delivery cost from Theia3D (~£15/session over the earlier manual video-review workflow) is materially outweighed by the diagnostic-grade upgrade the system represents.
No third-party pass-through — the diagnostic equipment (DEXA, single-plate force test, Theia3D markerless motion capture) is amortised on the Equipment page, and the clinician time is delivered by employed Sama Clinic staff (Kinesiologist at the £40/hr loaded Programmes-page baseline rate, plus the IR(ME)R-certified DEXA operator shared with the Deha room across all programmes). Theia3D adds an ongoing software-subscription line (~£3-5k/year) to the Sama Clinic opex, sitting alongside the Vald ForceDecks Mini single-plate subscription. The 75% margin sits at the top of the Focus set — Kaya is the equipment-heavy, no-consumables Focus; the amortised capex + software on the underlying kit is what carries the delivery-cost risk, not variable consumable spend.
What price does each margin imply?
Costs are fixed: £0 of pass-through, plus £275 of hotel delivery (kinesiologist time at £40/hr loaded + IR(ME)R DEXA operator + Theia3D + single-plate equipment/software amortisation). The only thing that changes with a different target margin is the Focus fee. Drag the slider.
Recommended: £1,100 — a private DEXA scan alone is £150-£250 in the UK, and a full biomechanist-led movement assessment with force plates is £400-£800 on its own. The bundled Kaya Focus at £1,100 with two DEXA scans, the full assessment battery, video analysis, and a written prescription would price around £1,400-£1,900 as a-la-carte private services. The slider lets you test alternatives.
Session-by-session, per programme tier.
The Kaya assessment battery + prescription session are the same in principle across the three programmes it's available on. What scales is the retest arc — Pause and Reset guests get a single departure re-test on the force plates; View guests get a second DEXA plus a mid-stay force-plate re-test, letting a real trend emerge across the fortnight.

The Kaya recommended fee (£1,100) is held flat across tiers — Pause and Reset guests get the same assessment depth as View; View adds the mid-stay force-plate re-test that only becomes interpretively useful across a full fortnight. Reception surfaces the actual session count at booking.
What the £1,100 buys, priced against private-market equivalents.
Each Kaya component is available separately in the UK private-market — usually as a paid DEXA scan at a body-composition specialist, a movement assessment at a biomechanics clinic, video-capture gait analysis at a running-gait shop, and a written prescription drafted by a physiotherapist or S&C consultant. The comparison below is the a-la-carte cost of assembling the same package outside the Focus:
| Component | Private a-la-carte cost | In the £1,100 Kaya Focus |
|---|---|---|
| DEXA scan × 2 (arrival + departure)private DEXA at BodySpec-equivalent or hospital private wing: £150-£250 per scan | £300 – £500 | ✓ included (2 per cap) |
| Full FMS + grip + force-plate assessment batterybiomechanics or sports-science clinic; ~90 min with a certified assessor | £200 – £400 | ✓ included |
| Video-capture gait & squat analysisspecialist running-gait shop or biomechanics clinic; frame-by-frame review | £150 – £300 | ✓ included |
| Written 8-12 week movement prescriptionphysiotherapist / S&C consultant, drafted against real assessment data | £300 – £600 | ✓ included |
| Force-plate re-test (departure) — on Pause / Resetstandalone re-test with same protocol; sports-science clinic pricing | £100 – £200 | ✓ included |
| Total a-la-carte value | £1,050 – £2,000 | £1,100 |
The £1,100 Focus lands at the top of the a-la-carte low case and materially inside the a-la-carte high case — before you count the value of the data being integrated (one team reading DEXA + FMS + force-plate + video together) rather than assembled from four separate providers who don't talk to each other. Kaya's commercial edge is the integration; the price is the same the private-market offers, the product is materially better.
Who Kaya isn't for.
- Pregnancy — DEXA involves low-dose ionising radiation (~1-4 μSv per scan, less than a transatlantic flight) but is contraindicated in pregnancy on precautionary grounds. The Focus is deferred; the movement and video-analysis components can be delivered separately if desired.
- Recent orthopaedic surgery within 12 weeks — force-plate protocols involve maximal-effort jump / lift tasks that a recovering surgical site cannot bear. Modified assessment (grip + FMS only) can be run; full force-plate battery deferred to the next stay.
- Bariatric-scanner weight limit exceeded — the JCC-registered DEXA scanner has a manufacturer-specified table-load ceiling (typically 205 kg for a standard iDXA). Guests above the ceiling are given the movement-and-video components in full but bioimpedance analysis substitutes for DEXA body composition.
- Active acute injury requiring diagnostic imaging — a suspected acute fracture, ligament tear, or nerve compression needs an MRI or ultrasound work-up at the guest's home clinical team before movement-quality assessment is meaningful. Focus deferred; the Sama Clinic Naya GP can support the referral.
- Severe cognitive-motor impairment (Parkinson's advanced stage, post-stroke with residual paresis, advanced multiple sclerosis) — the standardised FMS and force-plate protocols are not validated in these populations, and the interpretation risks are meaningful. Guests are referred to the Sama Clinic Kinesiologist for a bespoke assessment conversation at intake.
